These Cheesy Beef Puff Pastry Twists feature flaky, buttery layers of pastry wrapped around seasoned ground beef and melted cheese, baked to golden, crispy perfection.
Ingredients
For the Pastry & Filling:
-
Puff Pastry: 1 sheet (thawed if frozen)
-
Ground Beef: 1/2 pound (lean)
-
Yellow Onion: 1/4 cup, finely diced
-
Garlic: 1 clove, minced
-
Worcestershire Sauce: 1 teaspoon
-
Salt and Black Pepper: To taste
-
Shredded Cheddar or Mozzarella Cheese: 1 cup
For the Egg Wash & Topping:
-
Egg: 1 large (beaten with 1 tablespoon of water)
-
Sesame Seeds or Everything Bagel Seasoning: 1 tablespoon (optional)
Instructions
1. Cook the Beef Filling
-
Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and diced onion, cooking until the beef is fully browned and the onions are soft (about 5 to 7 minutes). Drain any excess grease.
-
Stir in the minced garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and black pepper, cooking for 1 more minute until fragrant. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.
2. Prepare the Puff Pastry
-
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
-
Roll out your thawed puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface into a neat rectangle.
3. Assemble and Twist
-
Sprinkle half of the shredded cheese evenly over the bottom half of the puff pastry sheet.
-
Spread the cooked ground beef mixture evenly over the cheese, then top with the remaining cheese.
-
Fold the upper half of the puff pastry down over the filling to create a sandwich, pressing gently to seal.
-
Using a sharp knife or pizza cutter, slice the filled pastry vertically into strips (about 1 inch wide).
-
Take each strip, twist it a few times like a corkscrew, and place it on the prepared baking sheet, pressing the ends down slightly so they hold their shape.
4. Bake
-
Brush the top of each twist generously with the beaten egg wash and sprinkle with sesame seeds or everything bagel seasoning if desired.
-
Bake for 15 to 18 minutes, or until the puff pastry is puffed, deeply golden brown, and the cheese is melted and bubbling.
-
Let cool for a few minutes before serving warm with your favorite dipping sauce.
